The Black Eyed Peas are an American hip-hop group from Los Angeles, California, who have enjoyed recent worldwide pop success, as they have received three times the well-known music award Grammy. The current members of this band are Will I Am, Apl De Ap, Taboo, and Fergie. Since their breakout album "Elephunk"in 2003, they have become most popular especially with their pop and dance-influenced style of hip hop music. The Black Eyed Peas have sold over 29 million albums and singles all over the world. The group dates back to 1988 when Will I Am, born as William Adams and Apl De Ap, known as Allan Pineda began rapping and performing together around Los Angeles. The pair signed to "Ruthless Records", run by Eazy-E after catching the attention of the nephew of Jerry Heller - the main manager of the company at this time. Along with another friend of theirs, Dante Santiago, they called their trio "Atban Klann". But their debut album, "Grass Roots", was never released because Ruthless did not consider the social themes typically reflected in the music of the group to be attractive enough to their audience. Later, the group were signed to "Interscope Records"and released their debut, "Behind the Front"in 1998. After this, the group and their accompanying live band, the "Bucky Jonsons"earned wide critical acclaim. The main single from the album was "Joints and Jam", and was featured on the "Bulworth"soundtrack. Their second album was "Bridging the Gap"in 2000, which featured the hit "Request and Line"by Macy Gray.
