Daft Punk Ringtones for Mobile Phones
Parisian duo Daft Punk succeeded quickly in receiving some popularity on the global music market, performing various hits in the "first-wave" acid house and techno, pop, indie rock, and hip-hop. This group has combined the certain talents of DJs Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, and their first project together included "Darling", an instrumental indie cover band. Their current stage nickname comes from a review in the English music weekly "Melody maker" of their debut compilation, published by Krautrock revivalists "Stereolab", so their lo-fi D I Y version of a "Beach boys" hit was considered as "daft punk". Daft Punk published their debut record, "The new wave", in 1993 on the famous Soma label. It was soon followed by "Da Funk", which gradually became first true hit of this band. This single record sold 30 000 copies all over the world and was confirmed by everyone from Kris Needs to the Chemical Brothers. Although the group had published only three singles - "The new wave", "Da funk", as well as the limited pressing of "Musique" from 1996, in this earlier period of their development, Daft Punk already became the subject of a "minor bidding war" between different companies and shows. The group actually signed with "Virgin", for recording their first long-player, "Homework", appearing early the following year - another brief preview of the compilation, "Musique", was also presented on the Virgin album "Wipeout XL" among the tracks from Photek, Future Sound of London, the Chemical Brothers, and Source Direct. In addition to his role in Daft Punk, Bangalter manages the Roule label and has also recorded under his own name the underground smash "Trax on da rocks", and under the interesting nickname "Stardust" he created the huge club and commercial hit "Music sounds better with you". After four long years of silence on the global music market, Daft Punk finally published "Discovery" in March 2001. Thus, near the end of the year appeared the live record "Alive 1997", the publishing of "Human after all" in early 2005. One year later, the duo created their greatest retrospective compilation, "Musique, volume 1 - 1993-2005".
