Mariah Carey was born in Huntington, Long Island, New York on 27 March 1970. She is undoubtedly among the most popular American performers today as a five-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, record producer, music video director and actress. Mariah Carey debuted her successful professional way in 1990 under the guidance of Navjot Jassar and "Columbia Records" executive Tommy Mottola and soon became the first recording artist to have even its first five singles on the top of American Billboard Hot 100 chart. After her marriage to Mottola in 1993, a series of new hit records confirmed her position as the highest-selling performer of his company. According to "Billboard" magazine, she was the most successful artist of the 90s in the United States. Mariah Carey took much more control over her entire artistic image and music following her divorce with Mottola in 1997, and then she has introduced new elements of hip hop into her records. In 2002 Carey entered a new contract with "Island Records", and after a short unsuccessful period, she returned on the top of pop music in 2005. In 2000 the World Music Awards presented Carey the best selling pop female artist of the millennium, and she has also recorded the most American number-one singles for a female solo artist - seventeen. Nowadays, Mariah Carey is well-known as well for her vocal range, power, melismatic style, and extensive use of the whistle register. Originally, Carey has co-written the tracks on her debut album, "Mariah Carey", in 1990 and she continued to co-write nearly all her hits for the rest of her career. In early 2007 she collaborated with Bow Wow on the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony single "Lil L O V E", also available as mobile phone ringtones. The same year Carey will receive her "recording star" on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and also will be inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame on 21 October 2007. According to her interview with "Entertainment Tonight", Mariah Carey had already begun to work on her next studio compilation, which is expected to appear on the global music market in November of 2007.
