Pink Floyd for Mobile Phones
Pink Floyd evolved from an earlier English pop and rock bands, and was officially formed in 1965. This is one of the most famous English rock groups all over the world and earned certain recognition for their psychedelic and avant-garde progressive rock music. They are also well-known for the philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation of their songs, added to quite innovative cover art and elaborate live shows which often required the assistance of additional musicians. One of the most successful and influential acts of the global rock music, this group has sold over 250 million albums worldwide, and an estimated 73,5 million albums only in the United States alone. Pink Floyd had moderate success in the late 60s as a psychedelic band led by the late Syd Barrett, however, his erratic behaviour forced his colleagues to eventually replace him with guitarist and singer David Gilmour. Soon after that, singer and bass player Roger Waters gradually became the leader and main songwriter of the group. In this time the band recorded several concept albums, achieving worldwide success with "The dark side of the moon" in 1973, "Wish you were here" in 1975, "Animals" in 1977, and "The wall" in 1979. In 1985, Waters declared Pink Floyd defunct, but the remaining members, led by Gilmour, continued recording and touring under the name, enjoying commercial success and eventually reaching a settlement with Waters. Unfortunately, the release of the massively successful 1973 album of Pink Floyd, "The dark side of the moon", became an initial watershed moment in the popularity of the band. Pink Floyd had stopped issuing new singles after "Point me at the sky" from 1968 and was never considered as a hit-single-driven group, but "The dark side of the moon" featured an American Top 20 single - "Money". This album soon became the first number one of the band on American charts and even in December 2006, remains one of the biggest-selling albums in American music history, with more than 15 million copies sold, and also one of the best-selling albums worldwide with more than 40 million copies. This critically-acclaimed album stayed on the Billboard Top 200 for an unprecedented 741 weeks, including 591 consecutive weeks from 1976 to 1988, establishing a world record. It also remained 301 weeks on the different charts in the United Kingdom, despite never rising higher than number two there, and is highly praised by critics.
