Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr is the real name of a famous American rapper, record producer and actor, most popular under his common stage nickname Snoop Dogg. He was born in Long Beach, California on 20 October 1971. Nowadays, Snoop becomes best known as a main MC in the West Coast hip hop scene, and also for being one of the most notable proteges of another famous producer Dr Dre. His interesting style of slang was earlier used by Frankie Smith and The Gap Band in the beginning of the eighties, and popularized in part by one of his fellows rapper E-40, and the bigger part of it is simply derived by adding an "izz" or "-izzle" sound to each word. His mother nicknamed Calvin "Snoopy" when he was a child because of how he would dress but also because of the Charlie Brown cartoons that he often watched. Thus, he received the stage name "Snoop Doggy Dogg" when he began creating rap. He changed it to the shorter "Snoop Dogg" in 1996, when he left his original record label Death Row Records and moved in No Limit Records. Some of his cousins also became hip hop performers and Aftermath collaborators - RBX, Nate Dogg, Daz Dillinger, and Joe Cool. R and B singers Ray J and Brandy are also among his cousins and he recently created "Smokin trees" with Ray J and another fresh duet with Brandy was pre-recorded for "Tha blue carpet treatment", but did not become part of the complete album. He has sold over 18,5 million records in the United States. At the very beginning of the music career of Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre began collaborating with the young rapper, first on the theme song of the film "Deep cover", and then on the debut solo album of Dr Dre, entitled "The chronic" with the other members of his former starting group, "Tha Dogg Pound". The contribution of Snoop Dogg to this compilation was really considerable - the rhymes of this rapper were as present as these of Dr Dre. The huge success of the debut compilation of Calvin Broadus, called "Doggystyle" was as well probably due to this intense exposure.
