Why do ringtones have to be delivered to my phone by SMS?
An emerging SMS based application is the downloading of ringtones other than custom logos, icons or picture messages.
Ringtones play when a mobile phone receives a call or a short message. It has become very popular to download new ringtones from the internet and set them as default ringtones on their mobile phones. These ringtones tend to popular songs or film themes. These ringtone composers are gaining a lot of fame because they allow mobile phone users to compose their own unique ringtones and play them onto their phones. These softwares also allow to actually type a ringtone directly on their keypad.
For some phones like Nokia that support programmable ringtones in a number of models, a ringtone can be composed on a computer or downloaded from the Internet then sent to the phone using one of the following methods:
1.Software using Smart Messaging
2.Data cable that connects via the USB or serial port of the computer
3.SMS gateway
There are some Nokia and Motorola cell phones that allow one to add new ringtones by receiving a binary ringtone code from other mobile phone through sms or email. The way you can receive ringtones on your mobile phone depends upon the models you won.
There are different kinds of ringtone formats that are present on the net. The two most popular ones are used up in the Nokia Mobile Phone are RTTTL or Nokring Format, and the Nokia binary format.
Here are some tips on how to do it:
1.To send a ringtone through SMS, you first need to search online for a valid ringtone format which is compatible with your mobile phone. After you find it, type the format on another phone and send it to your phone. Alternatively, you can also send each message to your phone manually using your cellular company's SMS gateway.
2.Using the SMS gateway, you need to provide your phone number and cellular company's name.
3.Within a few seconds to one minute, your cell phone should warn you that a new message or ringtone has been received.
4.If you have a Nokia Phone, then just follow the instructions to save your new ringtone. On a Motorola phone, open your "new message", press the button for "message options" and select "play music" or "save ringtone".
5.The new ringtone will be listed with other ringtones. To use it, associate it with a caller group or make it the default ringtone. You should find these options under "Profiles" (for Nokia phones) or "Tone settings".
Now it is also possible to paste and send a ringtone as well. You can now copy and paste a Nokring/RTTTL ringtone directly into an SMS message and send it to your phone through a regular free sms gateway. At times this service is paid.
