Why Some Phones Can Not Receive Ringtones By SMS Or WAP Download?

The facility to receive text messages on a mobile phone does not necessarily specify the ability of a mobile phone to be able to receive ring tones or graphics by SMS or WAP download. When buying a mobile phone, one must make sure that the mobile phone is compatible to ring tones and graphics.

There are many companies like Samsung and Sprint PCS phones that do not offer its customers the facility of receiving ring tones. The reason can be anything related to their market demands. By market demands, I mean that there are many cell phone service providers who ask the manufacturers to block that possibility, so that their customers are forced to buy their ring tones instead of downloading them for free from the internet.

WAP or GPRS service needs to be enabled on a mobile phone to ensure that the mobile can receive Real tones and Text Alerts. In case, this facility is not present with the mobile phone, the settings can be downloaded from the internet. The process of downloading such settings to enable a mobile phone to receive ring tones by SMS or WAP download is usually paid service. At times, the mobile phones may face some technical problems in the process of receiving ring tones by SMS or WAP download.

1.Connection Failure - The WAP connection fails before the complete ring tone is downloaded. To avoid this problem, the cache memory of the WAP browser needs to be cleared before the downloading begins. To ensure this, open the Menu section of the WAP area on the mobile phone and delete the data stored in the cache. At times, when a link to a ring tine has been used several times by a user, the link expires soon. This may also hinder the process of downloading ring tones by WAP method.

2.Customization issues – At times after the ring tone has been downloaded with WAP, and saved in the memory, the phone still plays the old tone. To activate the new ring tine select the "Profiles" menu and then the profile you want to change, select "Customize" or "Personalise" and then "Ringtone" or "Message Alert Tone". Make sure that the profile you are activating your new tone on, is the current profile on your phone .

The last option is to contact the customer care department of your mobile phone and inquire the full details about the downloading issue.

At times, there might be some problem with the WAP settings of the phone. WAP might not be set up correctly on the mobile phone, thus not allowing the ring tones to be downloaded in the correct format. The Customer service centre can be of much help in this case. Also, the WAP Push Settings might be deactivated in the mobile phone which must be activated to download any ring tone or graphics on your mobile phone.
